I took a minute to went through everyones efforts to resolve any issues they went through in their own experiences! I'm moving it above my suggestions so you have multiple methods to try! I recommend NOT to follow the instructions above. Offical X video drivers for XP will be released with the next coming Catalyst driver package. My multimedia keys work on vista after a reformat. It's all registry entries.

Download the "driver" from gateway and you will see its just registry entries. I edited mine to open my media player and music player of choice.

He said that he has contacted Gateway and they told him that they didn't offer any drivers for any devices on that laptop for XP and furthermore, it's impossible to run XP on that laptop. This is obviously a lie since every other component is working nicely.

I'm assuming that he'll just have to wait until someone unpacks the vista drivers for the sound device and rewrites them for XP Any chance you're that guy?

You should be able to find XP version drivers from for the chip-set, video and perhaps the touchpad from the chip manufactures driver download page.
