The last time it tested Vipre antivirus software was September MRG Effitas utilized a total of , malware samples to test 12 different antivirus packages, including Vipre.
It was consistently in the top two on all the tests except for detection of potentially unwanted applications, where it came in fourth, and the detection of PDF exploits, where it was in the middle of the pack. These results were good. The antivirus scored above 96 percent on four tests of malware detection.
It scored percent at detecting backdoors, preventing trojans, stopping password stealers, worms, miscellaneous downloaders, rootkits and ransoms. It scored over 88 percent detecting PUAs and. The results from MRG Effitas are eight years old, but they are still indicative of a solid track record over time. Although not as stringent as the lab testing, the results are useful. EICAR files are industry standard files that contain dummy malware used for antivirus testing.
Vipre Advanced Security blocked downloads of infected test files, stopped us from downloading PUAs and warned us about compressed files that were infected. Support is built in to the software. It displays a list of questions containing keywords from what you asked. Selecting one brings you to an easy-to-read answer or possible solutions.
The support forum gave us a quick answer with no effort. There are a few videos, but they are embedded in written pages on the support forum. We called with a test question and sat on hold listening to canned music for an hour without getting through to anyone. Customer service never picked up the phone. It was mid-day on a non-holiday Monday, so there is no excuse for the lack of service.
Email support is equally slow and unresponsive. To see what good support looks like, take a look at our F-Secure Anti-Virus review. Vipre is a good Windows product. It has been promising macOS support for over a year, but the software is still in beta. Still, it got excellent scores in our hands-on tests and lab tests, and it gives you the option to buy licenses for up to 10 devices at a time. Telephone and email support are big issues.
We never got a hold of anyone, but its built-in support worked well. The forums were easy to navigate, which made up for the disappointment on the phone and email side. Those areas need to be addressed, though. What do you think of Vipre Advanced Security? There isn't a single issue we have had with this software. For several years Viper was not compatible for Mac, however that has changed and all is well.
Dennis from Premier Community Bank. Industry: Banking. Very positive experience and little or no issues with this product. We do wish support would be more proactive especially with updates. Very easy to setup and install agents packages. Detection rates are good and does not bog down our systems. The mobile device management has been hit and miss for us. Agents do not always check-in. The 3rd party patching is OK, however there are other superior products out there. We just use it to justify what is missing.
Chris from Big Splash Designs. Vipre Business is a very solid product that kept our network secure for many years. Our version of Vipre was server-based and gave us a lot of granular control over our clients. I could initiate several AV functions immediately from the control panel, and I could also check the status of many software patches for each of those clients.
The overhead of the used resources was low, and the nightly scans performed well each night. Reporting and notifications were also good. We left this software in favor of a more moderately priced web solution in terms of seats. Not many, but enough to make me think of other solutions. I'm not sure if they have come out with a cloud solution since we left in Fall of , but that would have been a nice option as well.
In my minimal interaction with tech support, they have always been helpful and responsive. The licensing is flexible.
Some companies charge extra to install on a server OS vs a desktop OS. Vipre does not impose that restriction. A simple one-license, one-device policy. Also, a US based company. Unfortunately, like all anti-virus solutions, you need to run a local AV server to get the best opportunity to fine-tune machine policies to your liking.
David from zuma. Aimee from Computer Software. Its like a fortress that has been built to protect. Seems that with each update that comes, it wipes away settings where I have allowed certain files from my office management software to pass through the antivirus system. The result is needless time spent trying to figure out if the issue is being caused by the OM software or AV software.
I now check Vipre first everytime. Rodrick from IT Consulting and Services. It's an antivirus that really work and your device bearly notice about it. Security and safety of my information. It doesn't slow down my pc, works because i have no virus problems in years, and the only time i need support for setup after a windows upgrade the support team solve by remote control.
Ben from Brecknock Orchard. Vipre knows digital security inside and out. The Cloud Endpoint enables easy deployment, efficient management, and economical. S based, knowledgeable, and fast. Brandon from Windemuller Electric. Industry: Construction. Lots of options for tracking threats and also white listing safe addresses. Can be maintained remotely. Complicated to set up and implement. Exceptions are required for a lot of sites relatively. Won't work at all with VMware. Diane from APV.
Vipre is a fantastic software to protect your computer from viruses and malware. I highly recommend this product to everyone. There is nothing I do not like about Vipre. It is a great antivirus software and great and protecting your computer. Mark from Cornerstone Solutions Group. Very poor. I had a 5 year subscription with them that I stopped using after 2 years.
When we purchased the software, it was fairly easy to set up and push agents to the endpoints within our organization. We were using the Enterprise version of Vipre Antivirus on workstations and servers. Unfortunately, we had an outbreak of some Trojan viruses that spread to several of our workstations. I contacted Vipre tech support but had to leave a message.
When they finally did get back to me, they sent me a boilerplate list of things to do to try to quarantine the machines. My main problem was how this could have happened when we had active protection running on all of the machines. Vipre was never able to take care of the problem. I downloaded a trial version of Bitdefender and it cleaned the infected machines within a day. Matthew from Oasis Senior Advisors. Vipre is one of the best enterprise anti-viruses I've ever used.
Central management, easy deployment, great reporting. The UI for the server side needs to be updated. Looks like it's from the 90s. Client side looks great. Bodo from TetraVue.
Industry: Automotive. Vipre was easy to deploy and cost effective. When we deployed Vipre as our antivirus solution 10 years ago. It was easy to deploy, easy to manage and fast to not be overly intrusive to the daily work.
Like many things it changed over time and grew too fast. In its current state the engine slows down the system and transparency is not as good.
